What is an Start-Her-Pearl necklace?
A start-her-pearl necklace is a meaningful piece of jewelry that grows over time. You start with a single pearl (or a few) and a chain, and add more pearls to the necklace to celebrate special moments like birthdays, holidays, and milestones over the years.
How does the process work?
You begin by selecting your necklace chain and your first pearl(s). We recommend choosing one or three pearls to start. From there, you can come back anytime to purchase additional pearls.
Do I have to buy all the pearls at once?
Not at all! That’s the beauty of a start-her-pearl necklace. Many people start with one pearl and add more over the years.
What kind of chain should I choose?
We offer 14kt gold cable chains in yellow or white in a 16" length. New in 2026; we are also offering yellow gold-fill chains.
Will the pearls match as I add more later?
Yes. We carefully match each new pearl to your existing ones in size, color, and luster to ensure a consistent, beautiful look as your necklace grows.
What occasions are add-a-pearl necklaces good for?
They’re perfect for baptisms, birthdays, communion, graduations, anniversaries, holidays, or even as a “just because” gift. They’re especially popular for marking a child’s milestones or creating a family heirloom over time.
What types of pearls do you offer?
We offer high-quality "AAA" cultured akoya pearls with a very high luster and nearly flawless surface.
Can I choose the size of the pearls?
Yes! You can start with a specific size and either keep it consistent or gradually increase pearl size over time for a more graduated look.
Do you string the pearl on the chain before it ships?
Yes! Each new start-her-pearl necklace is carefully strung with silk and knotted between each pearl onto the chain on your choice, and shipped in a gift box. Gift wrapping is available upon request.
How much is it to re-string additional pearls?
Re-stringing new pearls on to your start-her-pearl necklace purchased from us is a flat fee of $20. Pearls are strung by our in-house professional pearl stringer in our Amherst, NY store location, with knots in between each pearl.
Can I personalize my start-her-pearl necklace?
Yes, many of our clients add a charm to the clasp. Engraving on charms is also available. Please contact us via the chat or phone to discuss!
